Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've seen a horse at a dealer's yard - do you go to those?
A: Yes, we do. Most reputable dealers encourage potential buyers to come and try their horses. You should never buy a horse without seeing it in person or sending an independent expert to assess it on your behalf.
Q: I've seen several horses from one seller that look great. I'm worried I might miss out. Should I buy now?
A: Not everything you see online is as it seems. Videos can be edited to hide issues like misbehaviour. Horses can also be drugged, dehydrated, or overworked to make them appear calm and compliant. A proper trial and vetting are essential to get the full picture.
Q: Should I put a deposit on a horse to hold it?
A: Most reputable sellers do not require a deposit. Instead, they'll honour your scheduled viewing. If you decide to proceed at an agreed price, the horse should be held until a vetting can take place. Only after a satisfactory vetting should any money change hands.
Q: If I hire you to source candidates, can I still suggest horses I've found online?
A: Absolutely. We welcome your suggestions and will include them in the shortlist. However, all horses must be evaluated in person by us (with or without you present), and our commission applies if a purchase is made.
Q: Do I pay commission if I only use your "Go See" service to evaluate a horse?
A: No. There is no commission for this standalone evaluation service.
Q: I have a limited budget for my next horse. Can you still help?
A: Yes. While our full sourcing service requires a minimum budget of EUR 10,000 (as it's difficult to find suitable horses below this threshold), we are happy to evaluate any horse you've found, regardless of price.
Q: I'd like to come to Ireland to try horses with you. Will I get videos beforehand?
A: Yes, we'll share and discuss suitable candidates before your visit. However, we may also recommend visiting specific yards where we know of promising horses that may not have videos available. Some sellers are too busy competing or producing horses to create video content, which typically requires at least two people.
Q: If you've already evaluated a horse for me, should I still arrange a vetting?
A: Yes. You should always obtain a Pre-Purchase Veterinary Examination (vetting). This is important both for your peace of mind and for insurance purposes. We can advise on best practices and attend the vetting if you wish.
Q: Are vets in Ireland as good as those in my home country?
A: Ireland is a world-renowned horse country. Equine veterinary care here is of a very high standard, both academically and practically. Many top competition horses have been vetted and treated by Irish professionals.
Q: Can you arrange transport for my horse?
A: Yes, we can. We regularly organise national and international transport for horses and have extensive experience in this area.
Q: Can my horse stay with you for further training?
A: Yes. We often take horses in for further assessment and training after purchase.
Q: What will using your service to source a horse typically cost me?
A: We suggest a working budget of EUR 500 for our sourcing service. If you go on to purchase a horse, our commission is 10% of the purchase price. However, this is often shared with, or entirely paid by, the seller. Any prices we quote are inclusive of our commission, so the only additional costs are for any evaluation or vetting services you request.
Q: Can we use you simply for recommendations?
A: While many horses can be found online, we also have access to horses that aren't publicly advertised. Out of respect for owners, and to maintain our integrity as independent agents, we only recommend horses we've assessed in person. This allows us to give you honest, wholehearted recommendations based on firsthand evaluation.
